Mission and Vision

We teach children form 2-12 years, starting from nursery. We welcome all children regardless their faith, background and abilities. The children’s social-emotional development is our first concern. We strive to make children feel at home at school.

Our education is customized, all children have the opportunity of total growth. We try to discover and develop the talents of each child. All children have the right to quality education to evolve into what they want and can be.

In our school children do not only learn a wide range of things, they develop their personalities by building self-esteem and gaining self-awareness. They learn to interact with each other, be tolerant to other cultures and opinions. We try to achieve this by circle discussions, joint celebrations and special projects.

Given the origin of a large part of our children, we spend a lot of time on language stimulation and vocabulary improvement. In addition to our regular groups 1 to 8 there are special groups for newcomers, children who come directly from other countries and children from transition classes. Within these specific groups, extra guidance and (oral) Dutch language offer is fundamental.

Inclusive education

We make sure that all our children get the support they need. We call this inclusive education. All children receive, as much as possible, appropriate education at their own primary school.

For further information see the School Support Plan (SOP).

Safe school

The Gezellehoek is a safe and challenging environment, where the well-being of each child is important. We help them to develop a positive attitude towards life and teach them to be respectful towards others. This pedagogical climate is the basis for trust and safety where a child can learn and grow. By giving the child confidence, we encourage independency and bring out the best in each child. Parents are an indispensable factor that we use as much as possible in the development of their child in an atmosphere of open communication.

The Gezellehoek has got a social safety plan.

School building

The school building has been recently renovated; it can house approximately 10 groups / classes. Besides its regular groups (group 1-8) the school also has two foreign-language newcomers’ groups. The NIP middle group (NIP MB) for children from 7 to 9 years old and the NIP junior group for children from 10 to 12 years old. Our nursery group is also housed in our school building. The school building has an assembly hall for performances, meetings such as information evenings and of course the group 8 musical and the “Gezellehoek’s got talent” shows.

The school is situated in the quiet surroundings of the Rodenbachlaan. A day care centre, named Dotjes is located near our school, just at the other side of the viaduct. At Dotjes there’s a day care as well as a pre- and after-school care. The after-school care for the Gezellehoek is organised by Dotjes at our school. For further information about the after-school care check their website: www.dotjes.nl.

Admission and Registration

Your child must be registered at a primary school before the age of four. The Gezellehoek uses a Registration Form, which you can get at our administration office. Parents and school complete the form together. You can make an appointment to visit our school with your child and to get acquainted with the teacher. During this visit we will reach an agreement concerning settle down mornings or – afternoons, limited to a maximum of three half-days before his / her fourth birthday. The day your child turns four, he / she goes to school, that’s to say a complete school week. In consultation with the parents we can decide otherwise.
