Your child, caring together
We are involved in your child's development and well-being. We encourage the involvement of you as a parent in this development. This allows your child to receive the support he/she needs.
Mission and vision
We provide education to children aged 2-12 years (from preschool). Everyone is welcome with their individual developmental abilities, worldview or socio-cultural background. The social-emotional development of our children is at the forefront. We strive to make children feel at home at school.
We provide customized education that focuses on the total development of the children. We try to discover and develop the talents of each child as much as possible. Every child has the right to a good education in order to develop into who he/she wants to be and can be.
At our school, children not only learn something, they also develop their personality by building self-confidence and gaining self-knowledge. They learn to get along with each other, to be tolerant and to gain knowledge of other cultures and other views. We try to achieve this through circle discussions, joint celebrations and targeted projects.
Given the origin of a large proportion of our children, we spend a lot of time on language stimulation and vocabulary development. In addition to our regular groups 1 through 8, there are special groups at our school for secondary students, children who come directly from another country, and transition classes. Within these specific groups, extra guidance and (oral) Dutch language offerings are central.
Appropriate education
Within education, we ensure that all children receive the support they need. We call this “Appropriate Education.” As a result, children receive as much education as possible that suits them at their own elementary school. For more information, see the School Support Plan.
Safe school
The Gezellehoek is a safe and challenging place where we want to contribute to the children’s well-being. This gives them a positive attitude to life and teaches them to treat each other respectfully. The basis of the educational climate is trust and safety so that a child can learn and develop. By giving the child trust, we increase independence and get the maximum out of each child. The parents are an indispensable factor in this, whom we involve as much as possible in their child’s development in an atmosphere of open communication.
Building
The recently renovated school building accommodates approximately 10 groups. In addition to the regular groups (grades 1-2, 3 through 8), there are two secondary intake groups (NIP groups). These are NIP middle school (NIP MB) for children aged 7 to 9 and NIP upper school (NIP BB) for children aged 10 to 12. The toddler group of the Gezellehoek is also in our building. The school building has an auditorium where performances and assemblies for the whole school are held such as information evenings, the grade 8 musical or “Gezellehoek’s got talent” shows.
The school has a quiet location on Rodenbach Avenue. Next to the school, on the side of the viaduct, Dotjes daycare and pre- and after-school care is housed. As of this school year, Dotjes provides after-school care for the children of the Gezellehoek at the Gezellehoek itself. For more information about this care, please visit the Dotjes website: www.dotjes.nl.
Application and admission
Before your child turns four, you must register your child with an elementary school. The Gezellehoek has a registration form for this, which you can pick up at our school. Parents and school complete the registration form together. You can agree to come together with your child to take a look at the group and to meet the group teacher. During this visit, arrangements are also made for settling in mornings or afternoons. Up to three half-days before his or her fourth birthday, your child may come to the Gezellehoek to get used to the school and the group. Immediately after his or her fourth birthday, the child follows the complete school week. In consultation with parents, it may be decided otherwise.
